Play Dough Recipe

We've had many requests for our PLAY DOUGH recipe, so here it is. You can double or triple the recipe as desired. Kids can help with steps 1, 2, 5, & 6, but parents should solo on steps 3 & 4 for safety reasons.

2 cups flour
1 cup salt
4 teaspoons cream of tartar
2 cups water
2 Tablespoons oil
a few drips food coloring

1. Measure & mix dry ingredients in one container, and wet ingredients in another large pot.

2. Now mix wet mixture & dry mixture together in the large pot. Stir well before turning on the heat!

3.Cook on Med. High for 3 or more minutes, stirring constantly until it seems like very thick mashed potatoes, and as if you could not possibly stir any more for fear of breaking your wooden spoon, or it glomping onto the bottom of the pot and possibly burning.

Isn't this fun? (It is worth it though, because cooking the play dough with the cream of tartar makes it nice and bouncy, and the salt doesn't sting your child's hands like other recipes do...what we won't do for our kids!)

4. Turn out on waxed paper and knead a bit until it seems just right.

5. When cool enough for kids to touch, let them help with the kneading.

6. When the dough is completely cool, store in a zip lock bag or other air-tight container.
